The entrance to the Port of Tauranga is located on the corner of Salisbury Avenue and The Mall (also known as Pilot Bay). The surf beach is on Marine Parade. The Tauranga Harbour, which is 200 km2 is on The Mall with the city located on the opposite side of the harbour. 

The local bus service is operated by Bay Bus and the local around town buses are yellow and called Hopper Buses. There are several bus stops along The Mall on Pilot Bay, and along Maunganui Road where all the main shops and cafes are located. The easiest bus stop to locate is on Salisbury Avenue, 100 metres from the Port of Tauranga gates where cruise passengers disembark.
