The Beauty HQ is a beauty and wellness collective run by Anna Mellalieu. Found above Recliner City, this hidden gem is a one-stop-mecca for all your maintenance needs and special occasion pampering, from hair and nails, to tattoos and injectables.Â
We talk to Anna about her business spirit and initiative, and what it’s like to grow a team in the Mount.Â
Tell us a bit about your background.Â
I have always worked with people in retail, social services and the beauty industry.Â
I started spray tanning when my son was four-years-old, and he is now 19. My tanning business grew over the years from my bathroom to a purpose built home salon, which I quickly outgrew in 2016. Eventually, I ended up at The Beauty HQ. My books by then had become full with nail clients and I was tanning clients any spare moment I had between.Â
Tell us how you came to take over The Beauty HQ?Â
I was a client of what was then known as The Loft. I walked in for the first time in 2016 and said to myself ‘I will have this space one day’. In October 2018, I took the leap and signed the lease.Â
I always wanted to create a co working space that would be a stepping stone into business without having to sign a commercial lease. Working alone can be really hard, and this business model enables us all to work together with the company of others.Â
Now, I run The Beauty HQ but no longer operate a service business myself. I had reached my full potential in what I was doing and wanted to pursue a new dream. I have almost completed my diploma in legal executive studies and now work for a nonprofit organisation.Â
What do you love about what you do at The Beauty HQ?Â
I love that I can provide local entrepreneurial business owners, a beautiful and central location to operate, all while having the support and company from others within the space. We are like a big family – there is a lot of love, laughs, encouragement and respect within our space.Â
Why did you choose to operate in the Mount?Â
It’s a great place to work. There’s beautiful weather for a lunchtime walk, and it’s ideal for meeting friends before or after work for coffee or wine etc. But it’s also not too busy that our clients ever really struggle to get car parks!Â

Why choose The Beauty HQ as a home to run a business?Â
Our businesses and operators can work their own hours, decorate their space how they feel suits, and reap all the rewards of being self employed without the stress of an official commercial lease. The Beauty HQ is a collective place that allows people to take the leap and start or grow their own business.Â
We currently have a few opportunities for a few newbies to join the gang. If you are after a space (or a chair) for your business, reach out!
What do you love about the Mount?Â
The casual social scene, and the scenery of course.
Where do you like to shop/eat/drink etc. on Mount Mainstreet?Â
At The Beauty HQ, we are all suckers for the toasties and coffee at Mount Made, and also the food at Pluto. We all tend to have our own fave places. Donna is a big fan of Rice Rice Baby.
Any hidden gems you think more people should know about?Â
I love the second hand stores near us – always hidden gems there! And if you haven’t tried the monster nachos and frozen margs at Roxie’s, you haven’t lived!Â
