After a shave, haircut or beard trim? BarberShopCo is the newest hair styling aficionado in town to help get the local gents looking their best. We chat with Jules Hebbel, owner of BaberShopCo with husband Luiz, about making the move to open a new store in the Mount.

Our queue system also sets us apart. There’s no need for an appointment. With the BarberShopCo Q app, you can join a virtual queue. Or, walk right in and join the queue using our in store app.
Tell us a bit about yourselves.
Funny story… Neither of us are barbers! Luiz has worked in finance most of his life, and prior to that was a professional footballer (he’s Brazilian, makes sense). I’ve worked in communications and marketing as well as many years at TVNZ in Auckland. I also juggle running BarberShopCo with being mum to our two beautiful kids, Sofia and Luca.Â
When did you open the Tauranga location and what led you to that one? Do you own any other locations or businesses?Â
We purchased the CBD store in early 2023. Luiz had been a customer of BarberShopCo for years, both here in Tauranga and in Auckland. He loved the brand, professional service and business ethos. We saw the opportunity, did our research and ran with it basically.Â
Owning something we could call our own was always something we had thought and talked about as a couple. We have very different skill sets, which combined work really well.Â
Tell us why you decided to open up on Mount Mainstreet?
Because it’s the best location in the Bay of Plenty, of course! We always knew there would be a second shop, loved the idea of the Mount but knew it would be hard. It’s quite different to Tauranga CBD, where we mostly service professional people working in the CBD. We were looking for a location in the Mount for nine months before we secured this one and it’s perfect.
What do you love about the Mount?Â
The vibe, ocean air, Mauao, the sea, the relaxed feel of the place. It has all the best shops and eateries! What is not to love? How lucky are we to live and work here. Â
We’re excited to get to know the Mount locals and offer our style of service, to build our reputation and see returning customers. We’re also excited to give visitors of the Mount our experience too, and to leave a lasting impression. Â
